it was delivered today
I unpacked the device, removed the digital phone I was using, and connected the funkyfoncable.
It is not working
cannot hear the ring tone
cannot dial
looks like there is no connection
Any idea?

The phone could be defective indeed or there is a problem with you phone system.
The following statement makes me suspicious:
" removed the digital phone I was using.." --> please note the OPIS phone is an old fashioned analog phone with tone dial but not a digital phone. Thus it should be connected the analog phone jack of your router. It will not work if hooked up to an IP jack!
I suggest that you test the phone at a different location in order to see if the problem persists.
