Dear Luludella,
the phone works with any 2G compatible network worldwide. In the US, this should currently be the case for all major network operators. You can find there various coverages here:
opensignal.com/network-coverage-maps/
(Click on the respective link and deselect 3G, 4G in order to get the wanted result).
The other point to keep in mind is that the card should be a standard size SIM-card (see the photo here:
