One of the issues for elder people has always been the resistance of the turntable on the classic kind of phone.
As the intention here is simply to get the right number selection but there is no power generation need behind it... could the spring that sets the resistance be adjustable?
I have not found any indication of how it could be done, or even if it's possible.
However, my 88 year old friend would need it adjusted to a lower resistance.
